Implosion of Riviera

We woke up at 2:30 in the morning from some very loud explosions. Alex was next to my bed in seconds.
Went to look out of the window and saw a refection of what looked like fireworks. Alex was happy when he knew it was just fireworks.

We want back to bed.

But then there was this strange rumbling.
It was very scary! Alex was so scared that he told me he just wants to die now.

I looked out the window again and see that the road (The Strip) in front of our hotel has no cars on it other than emergency vehicles.

It looked really smokey outside too.

I was pretty worried. After about 20 minutes of searching the internet I found this article.

On the video footage you can see our hotel (Circus Circus) across the road.

After that we could finally try to get some sleep again.

Ps. I am not sure if any of these videos will work. Just Google 'Riviera implosion' for more videos.

Two days in Las Vegas

Day 1:
We didn't start the day particularly well, with Alex being sick during the night. We only left St George quite late, which meant getting to Las Vegas late-ish...and no-one having any energy.

We checked into our hotel and got offered a high floor (level 25) and a view of the strip (more like a glimpse of the strip).

We did have some nice views of other hotels...

After getting settled in, we went to go see some circus acts, First was a clown in the Adventure dome.

Next was a girl doing a silk rope performance and then a hand balancer.

After the circus acts we went for a drive down the strip. Parked at the Mirage first to see the Volcano show, but just missed it and didn't want to wait another hour for the next one.

We took about 5 minutes to drive the block past the Bellagio and saw the whole fountain show. By then it was after 9:00 pm and everyone was tired, so we went back to our hotel.

Day 2:
We  started the day with breakfast in bed.

After relaxing in the hotel for a while we went to see some more circus acts.

The clown was not that funny, but the Trapeze artists from Peru were amazing.

The Unicyclist were pretty good too.

Next the boys went to spend some money in the arcade trying to win a soft toy. Unfortunately they had no luck.

By then the breakfast of a half a banana, grapes and cherries were long gone.
We found a Mexican restaurant for lunch -our first proper meal since breakfast the previous day.

Alex lost a tooth in the process. Fortunately he found it amongst all the food in his mouth. The tooth will be returning to NZ for the tooth fairy there.

The boys loved the free Salsa Bar. They had plenty of radish and Ryan got into eating limes.

There was some relaxing in the hotel room before gong out for our afternoon /evening excursion.

We got to the Bellagio just as the fountains were about to start. We jumped out the car and Matt went to look for some parking.

We looked around the Bellagio while waiting for the next fountain show.

Next we walked over the Ceasars Palace. The boys found something that they could compete against each other with.

Unfortunately that took every last bit of energy out o them. Ryan 's leg was itchy and he couldn't walk. Alex was so hungry he couldn't go anywhere either.

We had to literally drag them to go see the Fall of Atlantis (which happened to be in the very furthest part of Ceasars Palace)

Having a rest because they could not go any further...

Finally found some food at Smashburger for about 3 times the price of Smashburger in St George.

Another look at the fountains.

Ryan raced us up the stairs every chance he had. No wonder he was low on energy..

We went on the tram (skytrain) to Monte Carlo. We were the only people in our carriage. The boys took full advantage of that. They became pole dancers. It was very entertaining!!

In the end we just rode the tram back and forth a few times, while the boys danced and danced.

Saw the World's largest chocolate fountain...

And then back to see the fountains at night.

We stopped at the Mirage to see the Volcano show which we missed the previous night.

That was enough Las Vegas for us.
It was really hard work. We walked over 17000 steps on the second day and only saw things at 4 hotels. There was just so much more to see, but not really viable when you have kids.

I think we are more National Park people than Las Vegas glitz and glamour people.
